
TRAVEL NOTES: U.S. Officials Set New Passport Rules for July 1, 2009

The U.S. government issued newly updated passport rules for American citizens traveling to the United States by land or sea. Starting June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens will be required to present a valid passport to return to the country by land or sea after an international trip, unless they have another type of approved ID such as a new passport card, an approved enhanced driver’s license, or another type of trusted traveler card. Another exception governs school groups ages 18 and under – those students can use proof of citizenship alone if they are U.S. or Canadian citizens. Read the rules carefully
